Shaking off water, Max walks to the shelter of a palm tree. It doesn’t take long before he makes himself at home. The days pass and with no sign of rescue, Max resigns himself to his fate – macarooned!

I’ve been delving some more and found some more Mr X; 1989, Atomeka Press A1 Book 1 of 6
An amazing B&W page of Mr X art by Bill Sienkiewicz, Mr X: Heartsprings and Watchstops by Neil Gaiman & Dave McKean with B&W art by Sienkiewicz and Mr X: Epiloge by Dean Motter – 10 pages of B&W gorgeousness all worth its weight in gold ink!
As if that wasn’t enough there’s also a Barry Windsor-Smith art/story – The Big Button, two Alan Moore stories – Warpsmith:Ghostdance & Bojeffries:Festus:Dawn Of The Dead; Art by John Bolton – Bad Bread; stuff by Dave Gibbons & Ted McKeever – Survivor & Libretto and a Brian Bolland The Actres And The Bishop story/art amongst others… It’s a veritable anybody who was anybody in the ’80′s – and still is!
If you can get hold of a copy it’s well worth it.
Oh, the Sienkiewicz Mr X cover…

After falling into The Coffee Cup of Destiny Max finds himself all at sea.
The sea (well, coffee) swells, the waves break the surface forming white caps, the wind picks up and pretty soon a squall engulfs the galleon; Welli’ma Dutchman. This has been Max’s saving but pretty soon it is tossed mercilessly around like no more than a child’s toy boat in a bathtub. Max loses his footing on the wet, slippery deck of the Galleon, slips and is flung overboard!
The squall passes, as quickly as it started and the sea returns to its relative calm. Seeing no other choice he sets off to swim to an island that has appeared in the near distance. He is not alone, a Great (Flat) White’s fin tip can be seen in the distance. Max steps up his doggy paddle. Making dry land (and successfully depriving the shark of an unexpected dinner), Max steps ashore, bedraggled but safe!

Towards the back of the comic box, back in the mists of comic-time there is a comic; Mister X.
Created by Dean Motter, with covers by Paul Rivoche (among others), just the thoughts of Radiant City, Insomnalin and Psychetecture send me over the top into an archetecture-inspired insanity.
The insanity’s about to begin again in May as Dark Horse Presents (DHP) #12 includes a Mr X story with a Dean Motter variant cover!
A preview of the 4-issue run of the last story to be published when the series was re-booted in 2008; Mr X: Condemned can be found here.
This is probably my favorite comic character and some of my most loved comic art – dystopia at its best!

‘I’m falling…’
Max has unknowingly found a portal into another world…
The Coffee Cup of Destiny – I knew the portal existed! Each time I sat down, with that large Latte staring back at me, its creamy seductiveness with just a hint of well, coffee colour fixing my gaze, stroking my ego (steady!), whispering those five little words – ‘you know you want to’ but then I’m pulled back, out of my reverie, out of its grasp by the cake, sat on the plate by its side…
Phew, that was close.
What will happen to max? Can he swim? Will it be like water off a dogs back? I can’t wait for part two.

A few beans, ground to perfection – force water, at just the right temperature, under pressure over the beans – steam milk; semi-skimmed in a suitable receptacle – pour into a large, warm, white, porcelain cup – shake foam into the swirling mix for a signature latte
Mmmm!

What could be better than 5 a day? 8 a day! Max is in his element.
